ABOUT
Hurricane Harvey made landfall in the Houston area on August 25th, 2017 bringing disastrous flooding along with it. Throughout the historical rainfall many areas required rescues from flooded homes and thousands of homes were destroyed displacing families. Even if your home was spared from damages, you were stranded by rivers that ran where streets used to be leaving residents without a way to escape. In the midst of this natural disaster, there was an abundance of help and support among neighbors and strangers. On the other hand, there were also examples of people taking advantage of the chaos by looting stores and homes. The aim of this personal construction of photographs and narratives will not only demonstrate how people are affected by natural disasters but also how they respond in a time of crisis. Each photograph shows the physical damage caused by the storm but supporting resources and background information will hopefully reveal the cultural effects as well.
