Collection Development Policy

This collection serves as an example of the physical and emotional response that people have during and after a natural disaster, specifically referencing Hurricane Harvey for this project. Expansion of these resources in the form of interviews, photographs, and other digital objects are welcomed to provide extensive background and understanding to any researcher or interested party. Additionally, this collection has the potential to supplement other related projects. The intended user includes future generations of the surrounding communities or outside users that are seeking a deeper understanding of natural disasters and their impact.

Currently, all digital materials to be collected should pertain directly to events related to Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Additional materials and resources will be accepted by donation. Collaborative efforts with other individuals and organizations are encouraged to produce a more thorough resource. To maintain the optimum collection which serves the needs of the users, materials will be periodically reviewed for renewal or removal from the library. It is the expectation that this collection maintains enough versatility to serve for the potential purposes of research, exhibits, publications, and general community knowledge.
